Erasmi Opera Omnia (Leiden 1703) Now Online
26-11-2009
Desiderius Erasmus's Opera Omnia published at Leiden in 1703–1706 by Jean Le Clerc (Joannes Clericus) are now available online. The digital facsimiles are part of Erasmus Online, our comprehensive bibliography of early-modern editions of Erasmus's works. Erasmus Online is a work in progress offering bibliographic descriptions as well as hundreds of title page images plus digital facsimiles of seventeen entire editions—including also the Opera Omnia edition published at Basel in 1538-1540.
Our online version of the Leiden edition gives easy access to individual works through a detailed table of contents containing 138 titles of individual works. Such a detailed table of contents has been added to the online version of the Basel edition, too.
The Leiden edition (LB) is used by scholars worldwide as a standard reference for those of Erasmus's works which are not yet available in the modern edition (ASD)—which is still the case for many of them.
The digitization of the Leiden edition was made possible through the financial support of the Erasmusstichting, Rotterdam, the Stichting Bevordering van Volkskracht, Rotterdam, and the Stichting H.M.A.Schadee Fonds, Rotterdam. The project was carried out in cooperation with Royal Brill Publishers, Leiden, and Trilobiet Internet Services, Rotterdam.
