Rotterdam City Library is comprized of the Central Library and 23 branches scattered all over town. It draws some 3.4 million visitors annually. Thus it is Rotterdam’s most popular institution. Occupying 24,000m2 of surface area, the Central Library is the largest library in the Netherlands.

The Library is more than just a place for loaning books. Very regularly, the Library Theater and the Central Library Building host performances or presentations. The branch libraries also organize activities frequently. Highlights are, for instance, the annual “Boekenweek” (Week of the Book), the “Kinderboekenweekfeest” (the Festival of the Week of the Children’s Book), and the “Lezersfeest” (the Reader’s Festival).

Opening Hours

Monday: 1–8 pm
Tuesday through Friday: 10 am–8 pm
Saturday: 10 am–5 pm

Erasmus Reading Room

The Erasmus Collection can be studied at the Erasmus Reading Room (Erasmuszaal), which is on the second floor of the Central Library Building.
